Buy Franciacorta Spumante
Franciacorta is a region in Lombardy with DOCG status for its sparkling wine (the still wines from the same region are called Curtefranca). The name derives from the past, when the local monasteries and convents were exempt from tax. Today, the name is associated with the best Italian sparkling wines, which, like champagne, can only be produced with traditional bottle fermentation (at least 18 months on the lees), but often much longer, which leads to the desired delicious brioche notes and enormous creaminess. The only authorised grape varieties are Chardonnay, Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir), max. 50% Pinot Blanc and, since 2017, Erbamat again. A speciality is the Satèn (= silky), which is only made from Chardonnay and has slightly less pressure (max. 5atm). This makes the perlage particularly fine, long-lasting and velvety.
