Buy Chianti

Since the Middle Ages, when Florence was the leading trading centre, the wine-growing region to the south of it has been known as Chianti. A lot has happened since then, unfortunately including mass production in the 1970s when the red wine (often still trimmed with white wine for quick drinkability) came to Germany in raffia bottles. Thanks to increasingly strict production regulations regarding yield per hectare, grape variety mix, minimum age of the vines (five years) and precise area designations, Chianti and its reputation have once again risen to the top.

Chianti Classico is the name given to the area around Radda, Castellina and Gaiole, which was already defined under the Medici. A consortium protects this historic core area. The trademark is the famous black cockerel on the banderole.
