The name di Sesta dates back to early Roman times when a church stood here on the sixth milestone. Around 1000 years later, the Ciacci family took over the vineyard. The main grape variety is of course Sangiovese, a Brunello clone that produces the top wines of the famous Montalcino region. What is special about Di Sesta, however, is the vineyard from which the Brunello comes: it is divided into a western and an eastern slope with different soil profiles. This is why the Riserva is produced either from the cooler site in the west (Ovest) or the warmer one in the east (Est), depending on the weather conditions and the needs of the vines.
