Silvaner or Sylvaner is a white grape variety that originated in Austria or Eastern Europe. Today, it is no longer widespread and is most commonly cultivated in Franconia, Rheinhessen, Alsace and South Tyrol - especially in the cooler Eisack Valley.
With its flavours of peach, passion fruit, white flowers, herbs and earthy, mineral character, it is an excellent accompaniment to asparagus and vegetable dishes.
