Chardonnay "NAMA" 2020 Nals Margreid
Description
Chardonnay "NAMA" Alto Adige DO
White wine
Origin: Italy, South Tyrolean lowlands: Margreid at 300-400m above sea level, south-southeast orientation
Producer: Nals Margreid
Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay hand-picked, dry, 30 - 40 year old vines
Soil: White, deep limestone gravel with well-aerated humus content
Vinification: Whole-cluster pressing, 18 months on the lees in small wood, merging of the grape musts, further maturation for 9 months on the lees in steel tanks and 12 months in the bottle
Highly elegant, long-lasting Chardonnay with a broad aroma profile: lots of yellow stone fruit notes of peach, apple, pear and honeydew melon, followed by elegant acacia blossom and spicy notes of almond and ginger, structure on the palate, dense and gripping, absolutely exciting with a fantastic finish.
The "Margreid" vineyard is one of the southernmost vineyards in South Tyrol, just before the transition to Trentino. Due to the warm southerly winds from Lake Garda, the climate here is Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters. The downslope winds cause temperatures to fluctuate by up to 20 degrees.
