Origin: Italy, South Tyrol, south-east facing slope at about 250 metres above sea level in St. Josef am See (Kaltern); very warm microclimate

Producer: Kaltern Winery

Grape variety: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, dry, 20-year-old vines, yield 50 hl/ha

Soil: Loamy, gravelly limestone gravel, sandy layer with good heat storage capacity and drainage.

Vintage 2015:

The 2015 vintage was characterised by a very hot summer, which also manifested itself in the form of water shortages around the lake. At first, everything pointed to an early harvest. In the end, however, it started just a few days earlier than normal, on 1 September, as the extreme, dry heat had significantly slowed down growth. The harvest ended on 27 October and produced concentrated, warm and ripe red wines, the likes of which had not been seen for years.

Vinification: We are convinced that vinification has relatively little influence on the final result of a truly great red wine. It is merely an instrument to bring out the quality of the basic material, i.e. the grapes, even better. A good cellar master does this in as direct and short a way as possible. But if you really want to know...: Mash fermentation in wooden fermentation vats at around 30° C, four-week maceration period, malolactic fermentation and 18-month ageing in barriques (80% new), bottling with light filtration.

Tasting notes:

- strong, deep ruby red colour

- a summer walk in the forest, where the scent of rain, herbs and wild berries mingle with the sweetness of oak.

The young artist Margit Pittschieler from Brixen won the labelling competition for the kunst.stück Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva 2015, winning over the public in the online voting with her interpretation of the theme "At home in the world, at home in Kaltern".
