Marotti Campi - Marche

In the middle of a fertile, hilly landscape, nestled between wheat and sunflower fields, stretch rows of dark green vines. Even Roman officers were given resting places here and practised agriculture, as evidenced by pottery fragments. In 1850, the Marotti Campi family built a beautiful estate and still runs the mixed cultivation to this day.

in 1999, a modernisation programme was initiated, a new cellar was built and the vineyards were extended. Lorenzo's declared aim is to fully utilise the possibilities and potential of the autochthonous Verdicchio and Lacrima grape varieties.

Verdicchio is harvested over a period of three (!) months (between mid-August and October) to produce four wines with very different styles, characters and ageing potential. During a vertical tasting, you can taste impressively what this grape has to offer: from fresh and limey to maritime-salty to mineral and creamy with honey notes.

The variety of Lacrima wines is no less impressive. Lorenzo and his team make a beautiful rosé (rhubarb, caramel!) as well as a Spumante Brut and the exciting, sparkling, light sweet wine Xyris.

Lacrima - the tear - is a capricious grape that requires extreme care during cultivation and ageing. But when it is treated with dedication, as here at Marotti Campi, it produces wines with stunning aromas of rose and violet, spices and juniper, with acidity and structure. They are rightly honoured every year with two and three glasses in the GR.
