Fruit distillates
A distinction is made here between fruit brandy and fruit spirit. The key difference is that in the case of brandy, the fruit giving the brandy its name is always fermented first and the resulting fruit wine distilled. In the case of spirit, on the other hand, the fruit is macerated with neutral alcohol and this flavoured mixture is then distilled. This process is mainly used for fruit that is not suitable for fermentation due to its low sugar content, such as raspberries or rowan berries.
