Buy Brunello di Montalcino
Brunello, which means "little brown one", is a Sangiovese clone that was selected by Biondi-Santi in the mid-19th century. Like Barolo, it is one of the "Big Four Bs" in Italy (alongside Bordeaux and Burgundy in France) - which means that production regulations are correspondingly strict: it must be aged for a total of 48 months (including 2 years in barrel). What makes it special, however, is the terroir around the municipality of Montalcino, south of Siena. The soils here are sandier and therefore warmer, but the nights are cooler, which contributes to the development of a particularly complex spectrum of flavours. With its considerable tannin content, this wine is predestined for long ageing and storage. Anyone who can muster this much patience will be rewarded with a multi-layered, magnificent wine.
